Help Protect Children from BPA
We should be able to trust that products in our stores are safe!

Aren't all consumer products safe?
The short answer is NO! Toxic chemicals are in widespread use in common household products. For example, many baby bottles, water bottles, and other products contain BPA, or Bisphenol A. BPA is linked to obesity, early onset puberty, breast cancer, low sperm counts, hyperactivity, depression and other health effects. In scientific studies, BPA-exposed animals have altered development of the male and female reproductive tracts, mammary tissues, the immune system, fat tissue, and the thyroid.
These animals are also at heightened risk of mammary and prostate cancers. Finally, BPA-exposed animals have altered brain development, increased aggression in adulthood, abnormal play and sexual behaviors, and decreased maternal behaviors (Richter et al, 20071).
Can't we just learn to choose safer products when we shop?
No. There are too many chemicals in too many products for consumers to have to learn about them all! However, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) has the legal power to ban the sale of toxic household products and can insist that the products on our store shelves are safer.
Demand Protections for Children!
Avoiding BPA in bottles for your children is not enough. BPA is found in numerous other sources and we can't avoid it on our own. The Department of Public Health has the authority to regulate toxins in children's and household products, but it needs support from the Governor.
Please sign the petition now and ask Governor Patrick to support the Department of Public Health to issue a regulation banning the sale of all children's products (for ages 3 and under) containing BPA that can be mouthed, sucked, or ingested, and also to issue a consumer warning to avoid products containing BPA directed to pregnant women, women planning to become pregnant, and those going through chemotherapy for breast cancer.
